Lakes Leisure Kendal has built on last years Environmental Management success by being awarded the 2010 Environmental Excellence prize by the Cumbria Business Environment Network.

The leisure centre picked up this along with two other awards at the CBEN annual presentation held at the Castle Green Hotel in Kendal in March 2010.

As well as picking up the Excellence Award Lakes Leisure Kendal retained the gold standard level set last year and Lakes Leisure Ulverston received the Bronze award for Environmental practice.

The technical elements of the centre at Kendal have formed the backbone of the green friendly approach adopted by staff and customers. In operation is an intelligent pool pump energy saving system, an ultra violet pool disinfectant plus energy saving timers on lights and radiators.

However, it's not just the running of the building and the staff which have played their part; also around the centre there are various 'Recycle Zone' points for the customers to recycle their drinks bottles, cans and litter. Making customers more aware of what they can recycle when they are at the centre has contributed to a consistent 'green' approach ultimately leading to the top prize at the CBEN awards for 2010.

Being recognised by CBEN is a great achievement for the company and demonstrates the importance staff and customers place on our environmental impact."
