Leisure facilities planned in RAF base scheme
A 1,200-seat theatre and a 90-bedroom hotel are to be created as part of a major mixed-use redevelopment of a former Royal Air Force (RAF) base at Uxbridge in north west London.
The scheme will transform the base, which was the headquarters of No 11 Group RAF and was on the front line during the Battle of Britain during the Second World War.
Plans also feature the preservation of the Grade II-listed Hillingdon House and the Battle of Britain bunker, while a new 14-hectare (34.6-acre) district park is also proposed.
London mayor Boris Johnson said: "Developments like the RAF Uxbridge site are crucial to create permanent jobs and boost the local economy.
"It is fitting that this historic site, which played a pivotal role defending London during World War II, is being transformed for generations to come."
