The survey, published in the Sunday Times, ranks the UK's fastest growing unquoted companies in terms of profit growth over a three year period, with profit being defined as operating profit with directors remuneration included.

At number 21, travel agency group, Lotus enjoyed a rise in profits of 73 per cent, from £1.1m in 1998/1999 to £5.6m in 2001/2002. Lotus offers skiing and golfing holidays under the Supertravel brand and also operates the Dial-A-Flight telephone sales service.

Caravan park operator, John Fowler Holidays comes in at 49, having seen profits for the period rise 48.52 per cent from £954,000 to £3.1m. Starting with a single caravan in the early 1950s, the company now runs 14 holiday parks in the south west of England.

Blue Anchor Leisure, another caravan park operator is at number 88, with profit growth of 34.67 per cent, up from £4m to £9.8m. Blue Anchor operates the Fantasy Island themed resort near Skegness and 21 caravan parks throughout Lincolnshire.
