Lennoxlove House completes transformation
Lennoxlove House, one of Scotland’s premier historic houses, is in the final phases of an extensive restoration to transform the 700-year-old home into one of the most exclusive places to stay.
In July, Lennoxlove House will re-open its doors to visitors who, for the first time, will be able to sleep in the house in one of the 11 newly-created luxury suites whilst experiencing magnificent reception rooms that house some of Scotland’s finest art held in a private collection.
The house, which dates back to the 1300s, reflects the myriad of family, political and social trends that have shaped Scottish history. It is also home to the prestigious Hamilton Collection.
Renovation became necessary as the years took their toll on the building’s ornate stonework. And whilst some of the walls are over 11 feet deep, the architectural features, which mark out the centuries in some style, needed care and greater protection to ensure they lasted another few hundred years.
Work now taking place inside the house will bring back to life the magnificent design detail introduced by one of Scotland’s most famous architects Robert Lorimer as well as the elegance of one of the UK’s most comprehensive John Fowler schemes (of Colefax and Fowler) designed for the state rooms of the House.
Adding to the sense of luxury, the new interiors at Lennoxlove House include vast bathrooms, opulent fabrics and furnishings, wallpapers from France and embroidered silks from China. Guests will be able to gaze at stunning views over the Lammermuir Hills and they will have access to a butler service.
There will also be a range of traditional outdoor activities from clay pigeon shooting, archery and falconry, through to 4x4 off-road driving available on the 450-acre estate. Golfers can enjoy special access to a number of East Lothian courses, including the prestigious Archerfield Links, ranked one of the top 100 gold courses in the world.
When complete, Lennoxlove House, which is set within East Lothian woodlands, a mile south of Haddington and just 20 miles from Edinburgh, will become the destination unrivalled for this style and service.
Susanne Martin, general manager at Lennoxlove House, said: “We plan to transform Lennoxlove House into a magnificent destination for local and overseas visitors, families, corporate guests and couples getting married. Lennoxlove House has a unique character and heritage and when complete, we believe it will be unmatched for its style, interiors and range of outdoor activities anywhere else in Scotland.
“We have high aspirations of making Lennoxlove House a vibrant part of the East Lothian landscape as well as a destination of choice for those who wish to visit Scotland in style. But, first and foremost, it will always be a home and that’s what sets Lennoxlove House apart along with its distinct quality.”
