Lido campaign to seek listing upgrade
A campaign group behind plans to safeguard the future of a historic lido in Saltdean, East Sussex, is working on a bid to upgrade the property's listing.
The Save Saltdean Lido Campaign (SSLC) is drawing up an application to be submitted to English Heritage in the coming weeks, which aims to see the lido listed at Grade II* status. Owned by Brighton and Hove City Council, Saltdean Lido is currently leased by Dennis Audley but has been earmarked for a residential development on the site.
SSLC is seeking to retain the swimming pool facilities at the site and revealed that it is currently working on ideas and a business plan to sustain the lido's future. Campaign chair Rebecca Crook said: "The Save Saltdean Lido campaign has been set up by local residents and community groups to ensure that the lido is safeguarded from development of residential units."
SSLC confirmed it plans to submit its application to English Heritage within the next few weeks, with a decision expected to take a further 6-8 weeks.
