Lido swimmers are Swimathon top fundraisers
A swimming pool managed by charitable social enterprise Greenwich Leisure (GLL) has raised more funds than any other pool in England during this year's Swimathon fundraising campaign.
Swimmers at London Fields Lido have raised over £24,000, more money than any swimming pool in the country through the Swimathon scheme.
The initiative invites swimmers to choose a swimming challenge and then to generate sponsorship from family, friends and colleagues.
In total, GLL-managed pools across London and the South East raised a massive £125,000.
In addition to London Fields Lido, notable fundraising achievements included Clissold Leisure Centre in Hackney, which raised over £12,000 and Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre in Camden, which raised £9,000.
Dormer Wells Leisure Centre in Southall had the highest individual average fundraising of £355.00 per person.
Olympic gold medallist and swimathon President Duncan Goodhew commented: "Swimathon provides motivation and a personal challenge to swimmers nationwide. It also offers a goal to train for, a target to achieve and a great cause to support."
Marie Curie Cancer Care is one of the UK's largest charities. Employing more than 2,700 nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals, it expects to provide care to around 27,000 terminally ill patients in the community and in its hospices this year and is the largest provider of hospice beds outside the NHS.
