Life Fitness has announced that it is to be the exclusive United Kingdom distributor for BodyGem.

The device, from HealtheTech and unveiled on the Life Fitness stand at LIW, is a portable handheld machine which will quickly and easily measure a person’s metabolism.

The user breathes into it for between five and ten minutes in order to obtain an accurate measure of their oxygen consumption. From the data provided the person’s resting metabolic rate (RMR) is established, which in turn indicates the number of calories burnt during the day.

Employing the software which accompanies BodyGem, instructors can then use this information to set up a client profile, view RMR and tidal volume during a metabolic measurement and create a tailored weight management, nutrition and fitness programme based on an individual’s specific results.

The data can also be stored and retrieved for ongoing testing and programme reviews, members being provided with a printed report of their profile and plan to take away with them.
