Lightfactor and Entserv collaborate on Tussauds' projects
Lightfactor Sales, and design/installation specialists, Entserv collaborated to supply high contrast lighting for temporary interactive maze attractions at Tussauds' Thorpe Park (The Freezer and Freakshow) and Chessington World of Adventures (Pirate Jack) in the UK.
Entserv was approached by The Tussauds Group Studios to design the show and electrical systems for the three mazes, and to carry out the lighting and electrical installations.
Entserv also supplied the audio, pneumatics and technical infrastructure, with Lightfactor providing the lighting kit. Sudden Impact, Inc from the US was the overall concept designer for the mazes.
The Freezer - designed as a giant cold room - set out to create tension using a combination of smoke, strobes, sound effects from air cannons, slam-down effects and buzzers.
Live actors helped to disorientate guests moving through the industrial wire mesh walkways. The main lighting effect in The Freezer was a giant lightning machine called The Tesla Coil. Lighting control was by a Replay unit, synched to the soundtrack.
Freakshow was a different experience, combining the effects of polarising glasses with walkways daubed with UV-sensitive pyschedelic imagery.
The mazes proved so successful that a permanent ‘4D' UV installation, Burnt Stub, debuts this season at Chessington World of Adventures.
