Portsmouth Historic Dockyard - the home of naval attractions such as HMS Victory - has appointed Lincoln Clarke as its new chief executive, with effect from September.
Clarke will join the organisation from the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust in Stratford-upon-Avon and will be responsible for delivering a five-year strategy for growth.
The dockyard is embarking on a major programme of development, which includes the opening of the £21m Mary Rose museum later this year.
In addition to his time at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, Clarke is former marketing director of Merlin Entertainments. He also held marketing posts at retailer Booths and mobile phone firm Vodafone.
Portsmouth Historic Dockyard chair Dr Caroline Williams said: "We are entering an exciting period of unprecedented change at the Historic Dockyard heralded by the opening of a superb new museum for the Mary Rose.
"Lincoln clearly demonstrated he has the experience, the vision and the energy to lead us through this period of development, building effective partnerships and maximising our commercial performance."
