Littlewoods lags behind online rivals
Littlewoods Casino, the internet gaming business run by Sportech, is five months late with its website launch because of wrangles with offshore government regulators, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Littlewoods was one of the first three companies to be awarded a licence to run online casinos from the Isle of Man last September. Sun International and MGM Mirage were also awarded licences.
The validation process includes checking that the random numbers generated by the casino software are safe. Sun International began taking bets from its website in January. MGM plans to launch this summer.
The Isle of Man is not part of the UK, where it is illegal to provide commercial casino or bingo games to anyone not on the premises. However, the recent Budd Report into gambling recommended that this law be changed. The government has promised to respond to the report by the end of this month.
