Liverpool added to UNESCO's List of World Heritage in Danger

Liverpool has joined the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation's (UNESCO) List of World Heritage in Danger due to a proposed regeneration project.
Last year, the organisation expressed concerns about the potential impact of the £5.5bn Liverpool Waters scheme - a mixed-use development approved by the local authority earlier this year.
At its recent session in Russia, UNESCO's World Heritage Committee said the city "may entirely lose the outstanding universal value for which it was given World Heritage status".
A spokesperson said: "The development will extend the city centre significantly and alter the skyline and profile of the site inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2004."
Peel Holdings' plans for the development include the 55-storey Shanghai Tower, one of the largest UK buildings outside the UK; a cruise liner terminal; and a cultural building.
