Liverpool gets its FACTs right
Liverpool's first purpose-built cultural project for over sixty years is opening tomorrow.
FACT (Film, Art, Creative Technology) is part of the £110m redevelopment of the Ropewalks district of Liverpool and houses three cinemas and two galleries for exhibitions of film, video and new media.
As well as providing an agency for the commissioning and presentation of film, video and new media art, the centre will include MITES (the Moving Image Touring & Exhibition Service - used by museums and galleries) and a media lab, digital mastering service and transmission suite.
A media lounge is also available - a curate online viewing space with internet access and a DVD viewing suite, and The Box, for exhibitions, film screenings, internet broadcasts, talks and special events.
The FACT centre is a private/public partnership with operator City Screen and has been funded mainly by the National Lottery through the Arts Council, the BFI, English Partnerships and The European Development Fund, through the Liverpool Ropewalks Partnership. Details: www.fact.co.uk
