Local authorities back Chard proposals
A new masterplan for the regeneration of Chard, Somerset, which has been drawn up by LDA Design, has received the backing of South Somerset District Council (SSDC) and Chard Town Council (CTC).
London-based LDA Design, CTC and SSDC have worked on the plans alongside the South West Regional Development Agency and Somerset County Council, as well as consulting with local residents and stakeholders. The proposals include the creation of a “Green Heart” to make the most of green space surrounding the town's Holyrood School and a distinctive public town centre space, as well as improvements to East Street and the redevelopment of the ACI Boden Mill site.
Peter Seib, SSDC economic development, planning and transport portfolio, said: "During 2009, the people of Chard and surrounding area have been debating what sort of place Chard should be in 20 years time. "Through the work which has been done together, we now know that there is an ambition for growth. We have a broad framework for roads, employment and much more, and have a good grip on the public funding that will be needed to make it all happen."
