Local authority to consider future of West Lancashire sports centre
West Lancashire Borough Council (WLBC) is to discuss the future of Skelmersdale Sports Centre, with a report revealing that a £235,000 investment is needed to keep the venue open.
The council's cabinet is to launch a consultation exercise with residents and user groups, as well as an assessment of alternative sports provision.
According to a technical assessment, the sports centre's roof - made from asbestos cement sheets - leaks on a regular basis and can no longer be repaired and needs to be replaced.
WLBC portfolio holder for leisure David Sudworth said: "The building has developed serious defects and the time is now right to look at its long term future."
