More than 80 per cent of residents in Hammersmith, London, have backed plans for the regeneration of King Street, following a public exhibition held last month.

Feedback received by the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham (LBHF) revealed that 81 per cent of residents thought the proposals would "have a positive impact" after viewing CGIs of the scheme. Plans include new shops, restaurants, homes and offices surrounding a public square, which will replace a 1960s extension to the council's town hall and aims to create a new "civic heart" for Hammersmith.

King Street Developments (KSD) is behind the plans and will meet the full cost of the scheme. A planning application is due to be submitted later this summer, with the council contributing land it currently owns. David Walters, speaking on behalf of KSD, said: "We believe these proposals will deliver the wholesale regeneration to this end of King Street restoring the setting of the town hall and reuniting Hammersmith town centre with the Thames.

"In addition, the project will attract further investment and ensure the town hall remains at the heart of Hammersmith and Fulham's civic life."
