Locog’s rallying cry
There has been a fantastic response to the London 2012 Summer Roadshow which, since mid-June, has been journeying around the UK inspiring the nation to take part in sport.
Organised by LOCOG, the Department of Culture Media & Sport and Sport England, the10-week tour offers taster sessions in sport and informs people about the clubs in their area, as part of an effort to use the Olympics to persuade people to participate in sport as readily as they watch and debate it.
London 2012 chair, Seb Coe said: “Improving sports participation has long been one of our most important legacy objectives from the Games, and this year’s Roadshow will focus on just that.
“This country already has a passion for sport – and deepening that passion for playing sport and coaching sport will be an important legacy which will outlast us all.”
A LOCOG spokesperson says all the events, which showcase Olympic and Paralympic sports, have been well attended. One of the the popular features is the Dream Statistics computer programme, which works out what sport the individual would be good at by testing hand/eye co-ordination and assessing their height, weight and muscle power.
