London Youth Games Regatta to return
The regatta is set to make a return to the London Youth Games (LYG) on 13 June following a seven-year absence after it was announced that organisers had secured a five-year sponsorship deal with Thames Water.
The Thames Water Regatta will be held at Royal Victoria Docks and the London Regatta Centre in East London, and follows a successful pilot event last year, which featured more than 400 people competing in sailing, rowing, kayaking slalom and canoe sprint events. All 33 London boroughs will be involved in the LYG, along with 26 national governing bodies, to provide young people with the opportunity to discover their sporting potential in a competitive environment.
Former LYG competitor and Olympic gold medallist, Mark Hunter, welcomed the news of the regatta's return. He said: "Not only will it inspire more of the capital's youngsters to become involved in the sport, it will also provide the opportunity to experience a high quality sports competition."
