London’s Olympic bid could get the soap opera treatment
A spokesperson for the London Olympic bid has responded to recent reports that the committee was in talks with the BBC about the possibility of incorporating its campaign into the script of soap opera Eastenders.
While the spokesperson admitted that there were preliminary talks with the BBC in October 2003, nothing tangible has emerged since then.
The spokesperson confirmed that there has been ‘a lot of conversation’ between the committee and different tv channels about the Olympic campaign but that everything was still very much undecided.
They said: “The Eastenders idea was born last year but it seems to have recently re-emerged in the news again. All sorts of things could happen and we have been in talks with both the BBC and ITV but there are no firm plans at the moment.”
