Long list revealed for green prize
National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA) has announced the long-list of projects that will be considered for a £1m environmental prize.
The Big Green Challenge prize will reward the project deemed most successful in encouraging and giving people incentives to work together and develop new approaches to saving energy and to cut CO2 emissions in their communities.
The projects that made the list include a number of leisure and park-related schemes, including The Green Valleys community group at Brecon Beacons National Park; Hackney-based Back 2 Earth, which aims to create a resource and environmental centre promoting healthy lifestyles; and Tyddewi Parcio Eco, which aims to promote sustainable tourism in Wales.
All 100 candidate schemes will now be asked to put together detailed project plans to make their initiatives reality.
A shortlist of 10 projects will be announced later this year.
