Longleat reveals elephant enclosure plans
Longleat Safari and Adventure Park in Wiltshire has unveiled plans for a new 10-hectare elephant sanctuary.
The plans, submitted for approval to the local council, include a 994sq m (10,700sq ft) heated accommodation area with sand floors, natural sky light panels, automated feeding systems and a specialist treatment area.
Longleat is currently home to one female elephant - a former circus animal that was rescued following secret footage showing her being mistreated by her former groom. The new enclosure will become a permanent home to her.
When completed, the new enclosure will be able to house up to four elephants.
