Lord Rogers to redesign Monte Carlo's Place du Casino
Architect Lord Rogers' practice Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners has been chosen to breathe new life into the famous Place du Casino by redesigning the Sporting d'Hiver building.
The redevelopment project, being co-ordinated by Monegasque architect Alexandre Giraldi on behalf of owner Société des Bains de Mer, is to transform the site currently occupied by Sporting d'Hiver into one which can "reassert its historical role in the economic, social and cultural development" of the city.
The Sporting d'Hiver building was built in 1932 as a conferencing venue and includes five large meeting spaces.
These will be replaced by a group of three buildings as part of a mixed-use development including leisure, arts spaces, retail, upmarket residences and offices. The complex is expected to open to the public in 2016.
