Lottery cash for Fraserburgh pool scheme
Plans for the development of a new swimming pool, sports facilities and community centre in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, have received a £500,000 boost from the National Lottery.
Funding agency sportscotland has awarded the cash to Aberdeenshire Council as part of its Sports Facilities Fund, with £9m already allocated as part of the council's Capital Plan. Tenders have already been submitted for the work, while the council's policy and resources committee are due to meet in June to decide whether to proceed with the scheme.
If approved, the Lottery funding will help fund the overall scheme. Community fundraising by Fraserburgh Initiative for Swimming Sport and Health will be invested in a 40m flume. Facilities will include a six-lane swimming pool; a small training pool; a three-court sports hall; a gym; and a fitness studio, as well as refurbished outdoor football pitches.
sportscotland chief executive Stewart Harris said: "We have worked closely with Aberdeenshire Council to develop the plans for this new centre to ensure that it will have a sustainable future, enhancing the lives of local people for years to come."
