Louisiana Superdome renovation complete
A multi-phased US$336m (£208m, EUR237m) transformation of Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, US - home of the New Orleans Saints - has been completed.
The venue reopened in 2006 after being shut due to the impact of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and has since undergone remediation, three phases of construction and other upgrades. Among the latest improvements to the venue is the addition of new sideline seating along the Plaza Level, with new lower bowl units adding 3,400 seats close to the team benches.
Work undertaken in 2011 has also comprised an enlarged Plaza Level concourse to enhance visitor access; exterior improvements; and new Premium Bunker Club Lounges. Doug Thornton, senior vice president of SMG - the venue's operator, said: "What visitors will see in the Superdome is major, transformational change.
"After Katrina, we had a strategic vision to recreate the building into an ultra-modern stadium that would accomplish numerous objectives, including re-igniting a major economic engine, securing the Saints long-term, and returning an icon to the New Orleans skyline." Details: www.superdome.com
