Luxury farm camping concept launched
Entrepreneur Luite Moraal – formerly of Centre Parcs in the UK – is introducing a new camping concept to the UK called Feather Down Farm Days.
The first farm – Manor Farm in Alton, Hampshire – opened last month and offers five furnished tented units with rural views. A further 10 farms will be launched next year.
Feather Down Farm Days offers stays on working farms in tented units with a maximum capacity of six people.
The tented accommodation – lit by oil lamps and candles – comprises a double bed, a bunk bed and a canopy bed for children, a 45sq m (485sq ft) living area with a wood burning stove, cooking utensils, a sink with cold running water and a picnic table as well as a flushing toilet.
Communal facilities on the farm include hot water showers and a cold water pump for the more hardy as well as a wood-fired traditional oven.
Some farms will be organic and others dairy but all will include a farm shop and a hen house providing fresh local produce.
Additional facilities include a paddock, bike rental and a variety of farming activities for children.
The farms are run by farmers who wish to maintain the surrounding rural countryside while earning additional income. Details: www.featherdown.co.uk
