MA survey to help guide sector's future
The Museums Association (MA) has unveiled a new survey, which aims to allow members to help shape its discussions with Arts Council England (ACE) over the sector's future.
It comes as ACE published a strategic framework review produced by former arts minister Estelle Morris, which looked at how its strategic framework for the arts could be extended. MA members in England are now being asked to read the review and take part in a survey in order to determine what ACE's aims for the future of the museums sector should be.
Morris' review explores goals outlined by ACE in Achieving great art for everyone and what changes could be made in order to accommodate museums and libraries. Maurice Davies, head of policy and communications at the MA, said: "We have warned the arts council about the risk of seeing excellence as residing in collections and scholarship rather than in audience engagement.
"To a great extent, Estelle Morris recognises these issues, but in parts of the arts council there are some who still need further persuasion." Details: Museums Association Survey
