Madeira Story Centre opens in Funchal
The Madeira Story Centre, located in Funchal Old Town, has opened to the public.
The site, the island’s first visitor centre, features exhibition spaces housed in a number of completely refurbished buildings, including the town’s old cinema.
Exhibits at the E6.4m (£4.5m. US$8.5m) centre are available in four languages – Portuguese, English, French and German – and include a storyline of João Gonçalves Zarco’s discovery of the Madeiran archipelago in 1418.
Designed by Funchal-based architects Gabinete Caires, the design scheme and fit-out management was handled by UK-based Haley Sharpe Design.
