Major regeneration planned for London's historic Alexandra Palace

London's Alexandra Palace is to be transformed into a "major entertainment destination" under extensive regeneration plans drawn up by the historic venue's trustees.
Alexandra Park and Palace Charitable Trust is working with Terry Farrell and Partners, Donald Insall Associates and transport advisers WSP on the development.
A total of six "Big Ideas" have been proposed for the transformation of Alexandra Palace, which are independent projects contributing towards the overall regeneration programme.
Plans for the venue include improvements to its exterior setting through the creation of new public spaces and making "better use" of the main entrance on the South Terrace.
The masterplan also includes an upgrade of entrance spaces and the reopening of corridors currently unused, which will enhance circulation around the building.
Meanwhile, a proposed renovation of the Great Hall could include the creation of mezzanine balconies and a new hotel is being considered within the Panorama Room space.
It is anticipated the multi-million pound project - to be carried out over a number of years - will be funded through investments and loans from public and private organisations.
Trust chief executive said Duncan Wilson said: "Alexandra Palace could become a major international hub for cultural and community events, learning and recreation in the future if there is support for current plans to regenerate the People's Palace.
"In much the same way as the South Bank has carved a cultural niche for itself in London over the last few years, we have a vision to create a vibrant cultural destination north of the river at the People's Palace."
