Manchester museum names seven new patrons
The Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester has appointed seven new patrons to launch its 21st anniversary.
The new patrons are all ‘renowned representatives’ of the scientific, arts and public sectors.
Sir Patrick Moore is to take on the role of patron of astronomy, while writer and presenter, Lord Bragg of Wigton, will be patron of dissemination and communication.
Scientist, author, photographer and broadcaster, Dr Adam Hart-Davies is to become patron of industrial heritage and inventor, Trevor Bayliss, will be patron of innovation.
Chief executive of Manchester City Council, Sir Howard Bernstein, who masterminded holding the Commonwealth Games will be patron of regneration; mathematician and former lord mayor of Manchester, Dame Kathleen Ollerenshaw, will be patron of science education and academic and winner of the Nobel Prize for Chemistry, Sir Harold Kroto, will become patron of science outreach.
