Mansfield college expansion approved
Vision West Notts (VWN) has received the green light to progress with the development of a new £11m complex at its Derby Road campus in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.
Forming part of the institution's £24m redevelopment, the building will comprise 4,000sq m (43,056sq ft) of teaching and learning space with a health spa and a fine-dining restaurant.
Hair and beauty salons are also proposed as part of the facility, which will cater for students involved in hair, beauty and complimentary therapy courses, as well as hospitality subjects.
Mansfield District Council (MDC) approved the plans on 21 November, with work now due to start in January in order to allow the new building to open in early 2013.
VWN principal and chief executive Asha Khemka said: "This means students can put their skills to the test and gain vital work experience, while the community benefits from brand-new facilities right on their doorstep."
Meanwhile, the institution has revealed that work on a new £1.5m sports hall is due to start. Facilities will include six badminton-sized courts; a sports science lab; and changing areas.
Due to open in June 2012, the sports hall is also part of the £24m redevelopment alongside the £5m Create arts centre opened in September.
