Maori conservator aids National Trust
A New Zealand conservator has visited Candon Park in Surrey to advise the National Trust on the restoration of a Maori Meeting House carved by his great-great-grandfather more than 100 years ago.
The meeting house, called Hinemihi o te Ao Tawhito, was carved from totara wood and is situated in Clandon Park, where it is a popular visitor attraction.
It was bought in 1886 by the 4th Earl of Onslow as a souvenir of his time as New Zealand’s Governor. Details: www.nationaltrust.org.uk
