Marriott boasts $600m “largest” non-gaming resort in Orlando
The Grande Lakes Orlando is the largest non-gaming US resort to open this year, said joint-management company Marriott Hotels at its 1 July launch.
The $600m, 500-acre estate is owned by Thayer Lodging Group and managed by Ritz-Carlton Hotels and Marriott Hotels & Resorts.
Inspired by the 1920s architect Addison Mizner, the 584-room Ritz Carlton is designed around the theme of an Italian palazzo while the 1,000-room JW Marriott is designed with Spanish and Moorish influences.
Both hotels are served by an 18-hole Greg Norman-designed championship golf course and a 40,000sq ft spa, both managed by The Ritz-Carlton.
William J Shaw, president and chief operating officer at Marriott International, said the new resort will “redefine the Orlando experience by providing the privacy and amenities of a luxury golf and spa resort”.
Grande Lakes Orlando offers 12 different lounge and dining choices. The Ritz-Carlton offers 33,000sq ft of meeting space, including two ballrooms and 14 meeting rooms; while the JW Marriott features over 72,000sq ft of meeting space, including two ballrooms, 23 conference rooms and two boardrooms. Cordless high-speed internet access is available in all meeting rooms and public spaces.
The resort has a Golf Caddie Concierge Programme and a Golf FORE Kids Etiquette class. Children are also offered various children’s programmes at the Ritz-Carlton and a 24,000sq ft, 672,000-gallon, winding lazy river pool with floating tubes at the JW Marriott.
The resort is offering introductory rates and packages at both hotels through September . Details: www.grandelakes.com
