Marriott signs partnership for Spanish venture
Marriott International has signed a deal with Spanish hotel group AC Hotels which will see the two manage and franchise a new "co-brand" across Europe and Latin America.
Called AC by Marriott, the new four-star brand will target the leisure market in urban locations along the Mediterranean coast and Portugal.
When launched, more than 90 existing AC hotels in Spain, Italy and Portugal will be re-branded "AC by Marriott" and enter into long term management or franchise agreements with the joint venture.
The hotels will continue to be owned by affiliates of AC Hotels and other third parties.
Future hotels will be added to the portfolio using both management contracts and franchise agreements. There are also plans to expand the brand to South America.
The joint venture will be led by Antonio Catalan, founder of Madrid-based AC Hotels, with support from Marriott's team in Europe, headed by Marriott's European President Amy McPherson.
The new AC by Marriott brand to launch in 2011.
