Maryport Harbour plans put on show
A number of options for the redevelopment of Maryport Harbour in Cumbria, which will form part of the Britain's Energy Coast Masterplan, have been put on public display at the town's Wave Centre.
Property adviser DTZ has developed a number of options for the scheme following a consultation event in December, including proposals for new facilities for the Inland Boat Rescue service and the Royal Yachting Association, as well as the retention of water in the harbour during low tide. Local residents and businesses have been invited to comment upon the plans, which will help develop the Maryport Harbour Reconfiguration Masterplan, which is being led by West Lakes Renaissance (WLR) and Cumbria County Council.
The plans for the harbour scheme follow the £1.7m revamp of Maryport Marina, a five-year project including the creation of new and improved pontoons, new office space and upgraded boat repair facilities. Ann-Marie Cowperthwaite, WLR's senior project manager, said: "Building on the views of residents and businesses who attended last year's consultation, we now have a series of ideas to maximise the potential of Maryport's greatest un-utilised asset – it's picturesque harbour."
