In recent years, membership of the Master Innholders has been by invitation only. For 2010, senior hoteliers have now been invited to apply for membership.

Applicants should have worked for the last five years in the position of hotel General Manager or working proprietor in a hotel of standing and be based in the UK.

They are expected to have worked tirelessly to make a significant contribution to the work of industry organisations and/or training and education initiatives.

How do I apply?

To apply for membership applicants should submit a paper (between 1000 and 1500 words) on the following topic:

Master Innholders aim to lead their profession by example. Explain how you have contributed to the development of hotel keeping and how as a Master Innholder you could best exert your influence on the future of the industry?

Applicants are encouraged to express their personal philosophy and opinions and to describe their management style. The paper should be submitted as a Word document by email, together with a full CV (incorporating a colour photo) to: [email protected]

Further details about the Master Innholders can be found on www.masterinnholders.co.uk

Applicants are encouraged to discuss their application and suitability for membership with an MI. The membership list can be found on the website.

The application should be supported by a letter from a Master Innholder who is neither a relative nor someone working in the same company.

The CV should include evidence of active involvement in industry organisations, (such as membership on committees) and other activities in support of the industry.

Applications will be considered by the Chairman's Membership Panel.

Short-listed applicants will be invited for an interview in March 2010.

The decision of the Chairman's panel is final and it will not take part in any discussion or correspondence resulting from its selection.

Closing date for applications: 16 October 2009.

Applications will be acknowledged by the Executive Secretary without delay. Applicants will be notified in January 2010 about the success or otherwise of their application.

Please note, the annual intake of new members is very limited.
