Mayor unveils new-look Orpington High Street
London mayor Boris Johnson has unveiled the new-look Orpington High Street - one of more than 50 open spaces to benefit as part of the £220m Great Outdoors initiative.
The £2.2m scheme has seen the traffic-filled town centre transformed into a safer, greener space for members of the public through "de-cluttering", wider footpaths and new trees. Johnson said: "This is a great example of where good design can reinvent and revitalise a street which previously pitted pedestrian against driver. Now it encourages both to respect each other in a new, attractive and safe environment."
Transport for London and Bromley Council contributed £1.2m and £1m respectively to help fund the improvements.
