Meditative rooftop garden spa planned for Mandarin Oriental Chongqing
A Chinese mixed-use project in Jiangbeizui Central Business District – the new financial, commercial and business centre of Chongqing – is set to include a Mandarin Oriental property with a meditation garden spa.
Slated to open in 2016, the hotel will be located on the top floors of a 248m (814ft) tower, comprising 231 guestrooms and 18 serviced apartments – each with panoramic views of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers.
The Spa at Mandarin Oriental will house eight treatment rooms and a podium rooftop meditation garden above the adjacent park.
Group spa director Jeremy McCarthy told Spa Opportunities: “The garden will encourage meditative activities. For example, there will be a labyrinth for walking meditations, a kneipp walk and individual private sitting pods for silent reflection.”
The owner and developer of the project, Chongqing Fortune Hill Real Estate, appointed US-based international architecture firm Arquitectonica as the lead architecture firm in 2013 to create certain projects in the 226 hectares (558 acres) business district.
