Mental Health Service users in Oxfordshire to get free access to leisure
A new scheme has been launched in Oxfordshire to provide free access to health and fitness facilities for people with mental health problems.
The initiative, managed by SOLL Leisure, is being funded by Oxfordshire County Council’s Social and Community Services and Oxfordshire Primary Care Trust and will allow Mental Health Service users in the area to apply for a payment from the council to fund their leisure use.
Anne-Marie Hicks, marketing manager for SOLL Leisure, said: “We are delighted to launch the Free SOLLutions membership via direct payments scheme, which will provide mental health service users access to leisure facilities and support from fitness professionals.
“Research indicates that regular physical activity can help those suffering from mental health issues. This new scheme will ensure those with mental health problems can get the most out of the leisure services in their area.”
Those taking part in the scheme will have access to a range of SOLL facilities including the swimming pools, fitness suites and a range of group exercise classes including BodyPum, studio cycling, pilates and yoga.
