Merlin Entertainment restructures its Midway Division
International attractions operator Merlin Entertainments has reorganised its Midway Division into four geographical regions to better manage over 40 attractions and prepare for expansion.
Merlin Entertainment is planning to grow its company by four or five new sites each year particularly in the Midway Division, which consists of Madame Tussauds, Sea Life, Dungeons and Legoland Discovery Centres.
The Midway Division will now be split into London, Europe, USA West and USA East, each led by a divisional operating manager. There is also a new position for divisional director for Midway development, which is yet to be filled, and will oversee new brands, openings and emerging markets.
James Burleigh is the new Midway divisional director for Europe but David Sharpe will remain the Midway divisional director for London, which now incorporates the London Aquarium, The London Eye, Madame Tussauds and the London Dungeons.
Adrian Jones and Janine DiGioacchino will stay as the general managers of Midway USA West and Midway USA East respectively. There will also be two new Midway openings managers for the USA and Europe.
Up to seven new sites are planned for 2009 including a Legoland Discovery Centre and observation wheel, (Pepsi Globe) at Meadowlands Xanadu near New York, USA, and a Madame Tussauds in Hollywood. The fourth site will be announced later this year, along with potentially three others.
