Middlesbrough to get new sports village?
Middlesbrough Council has launched a public consultation in order to gather comments on proposals for a new sports village to replace some of the town's older facilities.
The local authority first set out its vision of a regional sports centre in preparation for major budget cuts, with the preliminary plans identifying the Prissick site for the scheme.
Middlesbrough Cycle Circuit and Prissick Skate Plaza are already based at the site, with the new complex to add a 400m athletics track; five-a-side pitches; and a health club.
A new base for Tennis World is also included in the initial proposals, which will also involve the closure and sale of the Clairville Stadium site to housing developers.
Wider plans for the sports village development include a residential element to fund the project and local residents are now being asked to give their views on the Prissick Masterplan.
The consultation will run until 15 April.
