Migliore+Servetto plan new leisure-focused waterfront in South Korea
Italian architecture studio Migliore+Servetto have revealed renderings of their proposal to transform an abandoned, oceanfront railroad into a scenographic linear park in Busan, South Korea.
The redevelopment project – called the "Blue Line Park" – will cover an area of 5 km and comprise a series of multifunctional pavilions seemingly designed to evoke the feeling of moving between scenes in a play.
These theatre set-like spaces will include the "Islands of Listening", installations that will use traditional Korean instruments to simulate wild soundscapes; the "Islands of Knowledge", a digital library and exhibition gallery; and the "Islands of Encounter", a number of open squares.
Blue Line Park will also feature a nine-metre-long cinema enclosed in a tunnel, as well as an open-air, boat-shaped performance stage which will provide views of the Bay of Busan.
In a statement, Migliore+Servetto described their vision for the attraction as "a path that interconnects natural splendours with the past and present history of the place.
"The Blue Line Park journey," they added, "is framed within a narrative offering visitors perceptions that always change over time. The line it traces does not just go back to the old railway tracks; it also becomes a synthesis between its past, present, and future.”
Construction on the park is expected to begin later this year.
