Minnesota's Treasure Island opens US$19m Lagoon waterpark
Treasure Island Resort and Casino has turned the frigid winter climate of Minnesota, US, into a tropical paradise, debuting its new 40,000sq ft (3,760sq m) US$19m (€17m, £13.2m) indoor waterpark development – The Lagoon.
Located in the city of Red Wing, the new development emulates a tropical locale, featuring a 320-foot (97.5-metre) lazy river with rapids, a waterfall, and an island for lounging. There is also a zero-depth pool, an adults-only pool, two spa pools and a swim-up bar.
The development is home to two 276-foot-long (84m) waterslides, while a kids pool with toucan waterslides is also available.
The waterpark incorporates wellness into its design, using eco-friendly sphagnum moss as a pre filter, making the water much healthier for guests by using fewer chemicals to keep the water clean. A full-service Wave Spa is also on offer, providing massages, manicures/pedicures, facials and hair services.
14,000sq ft (1,300sq m) of outdoor terrace space is available featuring retractable glass panels for the warmer summer months and fire pits to add to the experience.
RSP Architects – based out of Minneapolis – handled design work for the waterpark, while Knutson Construction oversaw development, which started in May 2015 and was completed early this year.
