Miramar park on schedule for 2005 opening
The first phase of the $21m (£11.4m, €16.2m) park in Miramar, Florida, is due to be completed in early 2005.
The park will boast four soccer fields, two cricket fields, two basketball courts, six picnic areas and a corporate pavilion.
According to the South Florida Sun Sentinel, the 171-acre park’s second phase – which includes the construction of a swimming pool – is expected to reach completion by October 2005 with the entire park fully open by October 2006.
Broward County authorities awarded the city a $1.5m (£0.8m, €1.1m) grant for the regeneration of the park which is part of the $400m (£217m, €310m) Safe Parks and Land Preservation Bond announced by the county in 2000.
The park’s construction is being overseen by the city and is located between Miramar Parkway and 172nd Avenue. The park’s swimming pool will be the city’s second local authority-operated pool.
