Mixed-use plans approved for American Adventure theme park site
Derbyshire County Council has approved a development masterplan for the site of the former American Adventure theme park near Ilkeston, Derbyshire.
The 390-acre (158-hectare) attraction first opened in June 1985 as Britannia Park and closed its doors for the last time at the end of the 2006 summer season after struggling to attract guests.
Developer Waystone now plans to create a mixed-use development that would cover 114 acres (46 hectares) of the site – featuring leisure facilities, housing and commercial properties.
The company said exact plans will be made available when a public consultation gets underway later this year.
