Model village celebrates 75 years of heritage
A model village, which initially began as one man’s hobby, is today celebrating its 75th birthday, making it the oldest model village in the world.
Bekonscot model village is located in Beaconsfield in Buckinghamshire and was created by Roland Callingham in 1929.
The attraction donates its profits to charity every year and, so far, has distributed over £4m to charitable causes while attracting around 200,000 visitors each year.
Special events scheduled for Bekonscot’s birthday include extended opening hours, face painting, free train rides and a balloon ride.
Bekonscot is the amalgamation of six small “villages”, which are linked by a model railway with over 400 metres of line.
The village is in a permanent time warp, with its population, buildings and forms of transport mimicking those of the 1930's.
