Mother Shipton's cave for sale
North Yorkshire tourist attraction Mother Shipton's Cave has been put up for sale at an estimated value of £1.8m (US$2.97m, 2.06m euro).
The 12-acre estate in Knaresborough attracts more than 65,000 visitors every year and includes the famous Petrifying Well, whose water has such a high mineral content that it can turn objects hanging beneath it into stone. Listed in the National Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in England, the site also features two adventure playgrounds, picnic areas, a tea room, a museum and a gift shop. Mother Shipton herself was a prophetess who lived during the reigns of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I.
The sale is being handled by Humberts Leisure on behalf of owners Adrian and Liz Sayers who are planning on taking early retirement.
