'Multi-million' events line-up for Sheffield
Sheffield's economy is to receive a multi-million pound boost from the city's major sports event programme for 2011.
A total of eight World Championships or equivalent level events will be held in the city, as well as three European-level championship events and 20 national championships. Among the events is the FINA World Diving Cup; the four-day Sainsbury's UK School Games; and the English Open table tennis championships.
Other events to be held in Sheffield next year include the Aviva Indoor UK Athletics trials at EIS Sheffield and the Betfred World Snooker Championships at the Crucible Theatre. Sheffield City Council leader Paul Scriven said: "The programme will provide £6m extra in the local economy, bringing a welcome boost to our local hotels and other businesses."
