A new leisure centre at Longhill School in Rottingdean was officially opened on 14 October.

Following a successful £2m lottery bid, the school has extended its technology college status to include a multi sports activity centre created within a purpose-built extension.

The facility includes two sports halls, grass pitches, netball courts, six tennis courts, a physio and sports injury clinic, a dance hall and a natural health and beauty salon.

“We have been working towards this since 1995,” said head teacher Geoff Ellis. “Deans Community Centre can offer just about everything to the local community. There are a range of sports, both indoor and outdoor, a dance studio, health and fitness activities, tuition and coaching.”

Centre manager Steve May said; “Our team is dedicated to making Deans Leisure centre somewhere to play, learn and have fun.”

The centre was opened by BBC TV’s Match of the Day football commentator John Motson.
