Mumbles Pier development plans approved
Swansea Council has approved Amusement Equipment Company's (Ameco) outline plans for the multi-million pound mixed-use redevelopment of the foreshore at Mumbles Pier.
The outline planning consent allows for the development of a six-storey Headland Building, featuring a mix of commercial, leisure and entertainment facilities on the ground floor. Upper floors of the building have been earmarked for hotel and visitor accommodation with a maximum of 70 rooms, and/or residential apartments.
In a report that went before the council's planning committee, it was stated that the plans to transform the foreshore will help fund "substantial" repair and restoration of the pier. The report said: "The costs associated with the works to restore the pier are estimated to be approximately £3m and it is therefore proposed that the proposed development will generate the necessary funding."
