1,200 museums across the US offering free tickets for Smithsonian scheme
1,200 Museums across the US will be opening their doors to the public this weekend for free to mark the Smithsonian’s Museum Day Live! event.
Taking place on 24 September, the offer is open to anyone who goes online to pick a museum and download a free ticket for both them and a guest. The most notable name to be taking part in this year’s event is the new National Museum of African American History and Culture, which opens its doors in Washington DC on the same day.
“Twelve years ago when we started Museum Day Live!, just 200 museums participated in the event and now there are more than 1,200 museums taking part,” said a Smithsonian spokesperson.
“The Smithsonian is committed to making knowledge accessible to everyone and Museum Day Live! is an opportunity for museums across the country and the diverse communities they have to unite around that commitment.”
