Museum forced to cover up mummies
A consultation process undertaken by the Manchester Museum has resulted in the decision to cover up the mummies exhibited as part of its Egyptology gallery.
More than 100 people objected to the “naked” mummified bodies being shown to the public, and have since been covered with sheets.
The decision to yield to the complaints has been met by bemusement and even upset by Egyptologists.
In an interview with The Times, Bob Partridge, editor of Ancient Egypt, said that he was shocked amazed and also pointed out that mummies have been sensitively displayed to generations of visitors.
